Singles and Handicap Champion 2014

Henry Arthur

Corby Town Table Tennis Club Tournament 2014

What a night! The last two years 2012 and 2013 have seen new members winning the highly coverted singles "Club Champion" Title in their first season playing for the club.  This year both of those previous champions entered the field to reclaim the title, but it was not to be.

The night belonged to our club coach, Henry Arthur.  In what can only be described as a passionate and determined display of excellent attacking table tennis, Henry walked away with not just the Singles title but the Handicap trophy too.

The final of the singles was closely contested between Henry and Marian Dvorsky.  Marian, a new comer to the club this year had previously knocked out both of the previous years champions, Aiden Smith and Chris Haynes giving himself the opportunity to continue the New member pattern of 2012/13.  Henry's path to the final was also no easy passage with him beating Lee O'Boyle (The clubs clubs highest ranked player in the Kettering League) in the Semi.

The Handicap tournament gives all players an opportunity to succeed, but the final came down to Henry playing Lee.  In what initially looked like Lee's game Henry turned it round to take both titles.
